In a significant crackdown on traffic violators, Nagpur Traffic Police issued challans amounting to ₹15.19 lakh in a single day on Monday. Under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Archit Chandak, the department issued a total of 5,924 challans, marking one of the most successful operations in recent times.
As part of their ongoing efforts to improve road safety, the Nagpur Traffic Police recently implemented a new rule mandating helmets for pillion riders. Those failing to comply with this rule face a ₹1,000 fine. While some citizens have voiced concerns regarding this measure, officials have emphasized its importance for public safety. They assured that awareness campaigns would precede stricter enforcement of fines for pillion riders without helmets.
The operation was part of a larger special campaign launched across all traffic zones to target violators and reckless drivers. The traffic department is also strictly enforcing various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act to maintain law and order on the roads.
DCP Chandak appealed to all citizens to follow traffic rules by wearing helmets on two-wheelers, using seat belts in four-wheelers, avoiding triple-seat riding, obeying traffic signals, and refraining from driving on the wrong side of the road.
