Devendra Fadnavis has been elected as the leader of the BJP’s legislature party today, paving the way for him to become Maharashtra’s Chief Minister ahead of the Mahayuti government’s oath-taking ceremony tomorrow at Azad Maidan in Mumbai.
Earlier, Fadnavis received approval to lead the Maharashtra government during the BJP’s core committee meeting, putting an end to days of suspense and speculation over the chief minister’s post. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
This will mark Fadnavis’ third term as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, having previously held the office following the 2009 and 2014 assembly elections.
Following the decision to appoint Fadnavis as Chief Minister, Mahayuti leaders will meet the governor at Raj Bhawan later in the day to formally stake their claim to form the government.
