SAD leader Sukhbir Singh Badal was shot at on Wednesday morning outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Those present immediately overpowered the shooter and handed him to the police.
The incident took place while Badal was performing his duties as a ‘Sewadar’ or volunteer under the religious punishment given to him by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
The shooter, Narain Singh Chaura, who is allegedly a former militant and has several pending cases against him, was arrested by the police. Chaura was standing close to Badal when he opened fire, but a ‘Sewadars’ standing nearby managed to push his hand upwards, saving the SAD leader.
Badal, who is currently in a wheelchair due to a fractured leg, has been fulfilling his ‘Sewadar’ duties at the Golden Temple.
