Eknath Shinde, Ajit Pawar become Dy CM
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Devendra Fadnavis became the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for the third time on Thursday. Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar took oath as Deputy Chief Minister for the record sixth time, while former Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde was inducted as Deputy Chief Minister. The ceremony was held at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, chief ministers and deputy chief ministers of various states, union ministers and other prominent leaders.
The BJP-led Mayahuti came to power again through a historic mandate.
As the bargaining for key positions in the ministry is inconclusive, none of the ministers was inducted on the occasion.
Fadnavis, Pawar and Shinde were administered oath by the Governor C P Radhakrishnan. Shinde paid tributes to Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray and his mentor Anand Dighe before taking the formal oath.
The programme was attended by prominent personalities from industry, Bollywood, sports and other fields. A large number of the workers from the partners in the alliance were also present.
PM Modi and others immediately left the venue after the oath-taking ceremony.
Fadnavis is expected to assume the charge immediately at the CM’s office in Mumbai. The office was decorated to welcome the new chief minister.
Maha-Vikas Aghadi leaders Sharad Pawar, Prithviraj Chavan, Uddhav Thackeray did not attend the ceremony.
