Nagpur: The Department of Botany at Hislop College is set to host its 21st Annual Flower Festival on Saturday and Sunday at the college premises in Civil Lines. This year’s festival promises a stunning display of chrysanthemums, seasonal flowers, and vibrant foliage, offering an unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts.
The festival will be inaugurated by Income Tax Commissioner Dr. Pramod Nikalje on Saturday at 10 a.m. The event will feature approximately 12,500 plants meticulously nurtured by the department, showcasing 30 to 40 varieties of chrysanthemums.
As part of the celebrations, the department will also organize the 10th edition of its popular sit-and-draw competition, “Papilion” (Butterfly), on the opening day. Around 200 school students are expected to participate in the morning competition, with spot entries also available. The theme of the competition will focus on the harmony between vibrant floral displays and the critical message of saving the planet, allowing young artists to express their creativity through this lens.

Principal Dr. Prashant Shelke, speaking at a press conference on Friday, highlighted the unwavering support of the Hislop Education Society’s management, which has ensured the successful completion of two decades of this event. He emphasized the festival’s theme, “Save the Planet,” as a key takeaway for visitors.
Vice-Principals Dr. Pratik Michael and Dr. Ajay Yoel, along with Head of Department Dr. Mousumi Bhowal and faculty members Parama Majumdar and others, were also present at the press briefing.
