Nagpur: In a significant crackdown, Zone 3 Police, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mahak Swamy, raided Sairam Traders in Shantinagar on Saturday and seized adulterated supari (areca nut) valued at ₹23-24 lakh.
The raid uncovered 94 gunny bags filled with substandard materials, including palm seeds, rotten and wasted supari, which were being processed and packaged into 500g and 1kg packets for sale. Machinery used for mixing and grinding the adulterated products was also confiscated during the operation.
The establishment, owned by Bhupendra Keshav Sadhwani, was allegedly involved in the illegal processing and sale of low-quality supari, posing serious health risks to consumers.
Authorities have seized all materials and machinery and initiated an investigation to trace the supply chain and those involved in the adulteration racket. Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report the sale of suspicious or substandard food products.
