Nagpur is witnessing a surge of hoardings as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other Mahayuti leaders prepare to arrive in the city on Sunday. Hoardings and welcome arches have been installed across the city, especially along the route from the airport to Fadnavis’ residence, to mark his first visit as Chief Minister since taking the oath.
While the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) typically regulates the installation of hoardings through its Sky Sign Department, the current display has raised questions about whether necessary permissions were granted. Hoardings are a significant source of revenue for the NMC, as they require prior approval and payment. However, the sheer volume of political displays suggests lapses in enforcement.
The winter session of the Maharashtra Legislature begins on Monday, prompting workers from all political parties to set up hoardings to catch the attention of their leaders. The BJP, in particular, has mobilized its machinery to extend a grand welcome to Fadnavis. Smaller party activists have also joined in, contributing to the citywide display of political messaging.
The NMC’s silence on this issue has drawn criticism, with concerns about unregulated hoardings overshadowing the broader preparations for the session.
