Chandrapur: Train operations on the Grand Trunk route were disrupted on Sunday after a crack was detected in the railway track near the Nagari-Chikli section in Chandrapur district. The incident occurred around 6 a.m. and was attributed to the contraction of tracks caused by extreme winter temperatures in the region.
The crack was identified by a vigilant gangman, who promptly informed the Operations Control. As a result, the Nagpur-bound 20101 Vande Bharat Express was detained in the section for an hour while an engineering team attended to the fault. The train later proceeded to Hinganghat station, where it was stationed until the route was declared safe.
The crack was found at a welding joint, a critical point where two tracks are joined. After repairs were completed, a goods train was run over the section to ensure its stability. Following inspection by the engineering team, train services resumed.
This incident highlights the recurring challenge of track contraction during winter, with temperatures in the region plummeting to record lows. Authorities continue to monitor the situation to prevent further disruptions.
