A boat carrying passengers from Mumbai’s Gateway of India to the Elephanta Caves capsized near the gateway.
A ferry, Neelkamal, transporting passengers from Mumbai’s Gateway of India to the Elephanta Caves, capsized near the gateway. Preliminary reports suggest that the boat had around 30 to 35 passengers on board. Nearby boats promptly arrived to aid in the rescue efforts. The cause of the incident remains unknown at this time. Relief and rescue operations are in progress, involving the Navy, JNPT, Coast Guard, three boats from Yellow Gate Police Station, and local fishermen.
No casualties have been reported so far. The incident occurred around 4 pm on Wednesday near Elephanta Island. Passengers are being transported back to the Gateway of India, where public ferries operate trips to the Elephanta Caves, located east of the monument. Further updates are awaited
