Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, speaking in the Assembly during the Winter Session, highlighted the expanding threat of Naxalism, stating it is no longer confined to remote regions but has also spread to urban areas here, on Wednesday.
He pointed out that several front organizations are working to undermine public faith in the Constitution by creating an ecosystem that shelters and supports Naxalites. “These groups often work to rescue arrested Naxalites and provide them with safe hideouts,” he said.
To tackle this issue, the Chief Minister announced the introduction of the Maharashtra Special Public Safety Bill-2024. The proposed legislation aims to dismantle urban Naxalite networks and strengthen anti-Naxal efforts.
Addressing public concerns, CM Fadnavis assured that the bill would be sent to a select committee for detailed deliberation and is expected to be finalized in the July session. “This law is vital for Maharashtra,” he affirmed.
