At least five people were charred to death and 30 others received burn injuries following a blast in a chemical tanker near Delhi Public School in Jaipur. About 20 other vehicles also caught fire in the blast, which occurred around 6 am on Friday.
The Ajmer Highway was closed to traffic following the blast. Poisonous gas emanating from the tanker spread in the area. Besides the vehicles on the road, a pipe factory near the accident site also caught fire.
More than 30 ambulances and fire tenders were deployed to control the fire. The gas that spread in the area is posing difficulty in the rescue operations. The injured have been shifted to Jaipur’s Mansingh Hospital.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma also rushed to the hospital to seek information about the injured.
