Cybercriminals defrauded a 67-year-old retired banker from Chandan Nagar of ₹8.24 lakh on December 16, Imamwada Police said on Friday.
The victim, Milindkumar Dharmadas Ganvir, a former employee of the Central Bank of India’s Chhindwara branch, sought to open an online account with ICICI Bank. While searching online, he found a customer care number on Google and contacted the numbers listed (9775744039 and 9817357986).
The fraudsters tricked Ganvir into clicking a link, where he unknowingly shared his debit card details and other sensitive information. Using this information, the accused hacked his mobile phone and transferred ₹8.24 lakh from his Central Bank of India account.
Following the victim’s complaint, Imamwada police registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS and the IT Act. Investigations are underway to trace the perpetrators.
