Preparations are underway to implement the ‘One State, One Uniform’ concept for students from 1st to 8th grade in schools managed by local bodies and the state government.
The state will provide uniforms of the same color to students across all schools, starting from the next academic session. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved this initiative, which will be implemented under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the state’s Free Uniform Scheme for students from 1st to 8th grade in the 2024-25 session as per the concept of ‘One State, One Uniform.’
The concept faced challenges this year due to difficulties in centrally distributing the benefits of the Free Uniform Scheme. However, during the winter session, the Principal Secretary of the Education Department presented the proposal to the Chief Minister. In response, the Chief Minister took a decisive step and directed the Education Department to implement the concept starting next year.
The Free Uniform Scheme should be implemented through the school management committee, as done previously. The uniform amount fixed by the Central Government should be transferred to the school management committee’s account through the Maharashtra Primary Education Council, Mumbai, within the specified timeframe. The Council should issue guidelines periodically to ensure the effective implementation of the scheme.
Under the ‘One State, One Uniform’ concept, students will receive two identical uniforms. Boys will wear a sky blue shirt with dark blue half pants or pants. Girls will have a dark blue pinafore frock with a sky blue outer, a sky blue shirt, and a dark blue skirt. In schools where girls wear a salwar-kameez, the uniform will consist of dark blue salwar and a sky blue kameez. The school management committee will be responsible for implementing the scheme, ensuring that uniforms are provided within the amount fixed by the Central government.
