Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has expressed strong displeasure over delays in the new runway project at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport on Monday. He has issued an ultimatum to the contractor, K.G. Gupta Company, to complete the work within a month or face action.
Awarded in May 2024, the project has seen only 80% completion of the first layer, with delays pushing the final timeline to May 2025. The ongoing construction has restricted airport operations from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., leading to higher airfares and inconveniencing passengers.
During a site inspection on December 23, Shri Gadkari criticized the slow progress, emphasizing that the public cannot endure extended disruptions. Accompanied by officials and local representatives, he warned that strict measures would follow if the work is not completed by the revised deadline, stressing the need for timely execution of critical infrastructure projects.
