Nagpur: Alleging misconduct by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in the Ram Jhula hit-and-run case, Janata Foundation President Zeeshan Siddiqui announced plans to file a contempt petition against the department. Addressing the media on Thursday, Siddiqui accused CID officials of shielding the prime accused, Ritika Maloo, and delaying the chargesheet, which enabled her to secure default bail.
He claimed CID investigating officer Nayan Alurkar intentionally postponed filing the chargesheet by four months. Siddiqui also criticized the CID for failing to act against Tehsil police personnel accused of attempting to destroy evidence and protect the accused.
The victims’ families had earlier sought intervention from the High Court, which had transferred the investigation to the CID, citing lapses by Tehsil police. However, Siddiqui alleged that the CID disregarded court directives.
Mohammed Atique, the brother of one of the accident victims, accused the CID of failing to keep families informed about the investigation’s progress.
Siddiqui demanded an inquiry into possible political pressure on the investigation, emphasizing the need for justice for the victims. He confirmed the contempt petition would soon be filed to hold the CID accountable for its actions.
