Nagpur: Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal has issued a prohibitory order to prevent unsolicited activities by transgender groups in the city. The order, effective from December 28, 2024, to February 25, 2025, seeks to address complaints of harassment and intimidation reported by citizens.
As per the order, it was observed that transgender groups often visit homes uninvited during occasions like weddings, funerals, or celebrations, and engage in intimidating behavior to demand money. Additionally, they frequent traffic junctions and public spaces, coercing commuters and pedestrians for cash. Such actions are deemed unlawful under various sections of the BNS and Maharashtra Police Act, though citizens rarely file complaints due to fear or embarrassment.
Key Restrictions
1. Transgender groups cannot visit homes or establishments during private occasions unless specifically invited.
2. Gathering at traffic signals or soliciting money from commuters is strictly prohibited.
Violators will face legal action under relevant BNS sections. Citizens can submit objections to this order via email at cp.nagpur@mahapolice.gov.in or at Police Bhavan, Civil Lines.
The order was issued on December 27, 2024, and will remain in force until February 25, 2025.
