The closure of the Butibori flyover will last longer due to repairs after damage on December 24. Ramesh Dhumal, Additional Superintendent of Police, Nagpur (Rural), has issued a traffic diversion order to ease congestion at Butibori Square. The diversion will be in effect from January 10 to April 9.
Traffic coming from Wardha Road should take the ACC Square underpass, use the left-side service road, pass the Fire Brigade office and Indorama company, then turn right at Salaidhaba to join the Samruddhi Expressway towards Nagpur.
Traffic from Chandrapur Road must turn left at Y-point, follow the same route as above via the ACC underpass, and use the Samruddhi Expressway to reach Nagpur.
The Butibori flyover has been closed since December 24 after a cantilever was damaged by a heavily loaded truck, causing debris to fall. A team from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) is investigating the cause of the damage and will recommend a timeline for reopening. The flyover was inaugurated in 2021.
After a joint inspection by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and VNIT, the Butibori flyover was deemed unsafe for traffic. It will remain closed until repairs are completed and it is declared safe. Sources say NHAI plans to take strict action against the contractor, as the flyover is still under a 10-year Defect Liability Period.
The traffic diversion has led to congestion in the MIDC area, increasing travel time and distance to Nagpur. Residents of Butibori are also struggling with heavy traffic at the town’s main square. Locals have demanded the immediate reopening of the flyover to ease their difficulties.
