Finding a well-paying job in India’s IT sector is tougher now, with layoffs and companies focusing on candidates with specialized skills or experience.
A viral video has stirred conversations on social media, showing a long queue of over 3,000 engineers outside an IT company in Pune, Maharashtra. Posted by the X handle Pune Pulse, the footage shows men and women waiting outside UPS, Magarpatta, in hopes of landing a job. The caption read, “Pune: Viral Video Shows Over 3,000 Engineers Queuing for Walk-In Interview, Highlighting Fierce IT Job Market Competition.”
The video quickly gained attention, sparking reactions from social media users. “This is pure harassment. For the consulting IT work we do, we don’t need this much hype. Just hire a person with good resume and fire him if he is not working fine,” a user wrote. “Same situation was with CTS when i went to pune for an interview in year 2015,” a user said.
“Rising level of unemployed amongst educated youth. No future for them. Parents are unnessarily spending money on their education,” another user commented.
In October, a video of thousands of Indians lined up for waiter and service staff jobs in Canada raised concerns on social media. The video was shot outside Tandoori Flame restaurant, where several students waited for hours to sit for the interview.
