Union threatens to go on strike from Feb 4
Health workers from various Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) health centers have been protesting due to delays in salary payments, which have not been received for the past two months. The protest, led by the NMC Temporary Health Workers Union, involves workers from urban primary health centers like Futala, Dika, and Dabha, among others. Most of the protesting workers are women, many of whom live in rented homes and rely on their salaries to support their families, making the delay a significant financial burden.
Workers have been wearing black bands as a form of protest, which follows earlier demonstrations, including one at Samvidhan Square, demanding timely payment. Salaries, which were typically paid by the 3rd of each month, are now delayed by 15-20 days, worsening to two months. The union has threatened to go on strike starting February 4 if the salaries are not paid by February 3.
Jammu Anand, President of the Union, urged that the NMC should pay the workers from its own funds if the delay continues, and then recover the amount once state grants are received. The union praised the strong participation in the protest and warned that a strike could disrupt health services in Nagpur if not resolved.
