VIA HRD Forum and the NIPM Nagpur Chapter jointly organized a panel discussion titled “Why HR Fails?” at VIA Auditorium, Nagpur. The esteemed panelists included Manoj Rajimwale, Dr. Smita Singh Dabholkar, Dr. Sangeeta Goel, and Ashish Khole.
Manoj Rajimwale, Principal Consultant – HR at Siddharth Consulting, emphasized that HR itself doesn’t fail; rather, it’s the individuals executing its policies and practices who may falter. He highlighted the significant transformations in HR over the past two decades, transitioning from the Information Age to the Digital Age. He further stated that the most valuable asset for any organization is its people. He identified three critical aspects in HR: environmental factors, transactional elements, and design considerations. While statutory compliance remains fundamental, he noted the evolving role of the principal employer.
Dr. Sangeeta Goel, Professor of Organizational Behaviour and Co-Founder of Security & Policy Initiatives in Delhi, remarked that when organizations function smoothly, the silent contributions of HR often go unnoticed. She emphasized that HR manages the most unpredictable component of an organization: its people, acknowledging that no two individuals are the same.
Dr. Smita Singh Dabholkar, Associate Professor at IMT Nagpur, addressed the misconception that HR is merely a desk job. She explained that HR’s role has evolved from traditional tasks like hiring, recruiting, and appraisals to becoming a strategic business partner.
Ashish Khole, HR Head at Solar Industries India Ltd, discussed the significant improvements in Vidarbha’s situation over the past 25 years. The session was moderated by Manoj Rajimwale. He asked the penalists their views , understanding and mitigating challenges of failure, major pitfalls of failure .The discussion provided valuable insights into the evolving role of HR in organizations and the challenges it faces in the modern business environment. Human Resources (HR) departments are essential for fostering a productive and harmonious workplace. However, they can face challenges that hinder their effectiveness. Understanding these challenges and the expectations HR has from organizations is crucial for improvement.
After the discussion, the conclusion was that ignoring the importance of HR and excluding them from major areas are a few reasons why HR fails. Lack of Clear Strategy: Without a well-defined plan, HR initiatives may lack direction, leading to ineffective outcomes. Failure to communicate effectively with senior leaders and employees can result in misalignment and missed opportunities.
Attempting to address too many issues simultaneously can dilute focus and resources, compromising the quality of HR programs.
HR strategies that do not align with the company’s objectives can lead to wasted efforts and resources. An inability to adapt to evolving workplace dynamics and technologies can render HR practices obsolete. The program was conducted by Neelam Bowade, and a large number of HR professionals and students were present.
