Ludhiana: A court in Punjab’s Ludhiana has issued an arrest warrant against Bollywood actor Sonu Sood in connection with an alleged ₹10 lakh fraud case. The order was issued by Judicial Magistrate Ramanpreet Kaur, following multiple failed appearances by the actor despite being summoned as a witness.
Case Background & Allegations
The case originated from a complaint by lawyer Rajesh Khanna, who claims he was deceived into investing ₹10 lakh in a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme known as the ‘Rijika coin.’ The alleged mastermind, Mohit Shukla, reportedly promised high returns but failed to deliver, leading Khanna to file a legal case.
While Sonu Sood’s direct involvement in the fraud remains unclear, he was called to testify due to his possible knowledge of individuals linked to the case. However, after repeatedly failing to appear in court, the judicial magistrate escalated the matter by issuing an arrest warrant.
Court Directs Mumbai Police to Execute Arrest
The Ludhiana court has directed Oshiwara Police Station in Andheri West, Mumbai, to carry out the arrest. According to the court order, “Sonu Sood, resident of H.NO 605/606 Casablanca Apartment, has been duly served with summons or warrants but has failed to attend, absconding or avoiding service. You are hereby ordered to arrest and bring the said Sonu Sood before the Court.”
Authorities have been instructed to execute the warrant and report back by February 10, 2025, detailing either the arrest or reasons for non-execution.
Legal and Public Reactions
The case has drawn significant attention in both Ludhiana and Mumbai, where Sood resides. The actor, who is widely recognized for his philanthropic efforts, has yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Sood recently expressed gratitude to CM N. Chandrababu Naidu for his continued support of the Sood Charity Foundation, which aims to promote healthcare initiatives in India. He shared a series of photos on Instagram, showcasing his meeting with the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister.
The next hearing is scheduled for February 10.
