The Central Railway has constructed an alternative road in just 12 days to ensure smooth traffic movement from Dhantoli to Mokshadham on Great Nag Road. This was necessary as the road under the Dhantoli railway underbridge (RUB) remains closed for strengthening one of the five spans of the century-old bridge.
Three of the five spans serve as waterways for the Nag River, while the remaining two are used for two-way traffic. The strengthening work is expected to be completed before monsoon, after which the temporary road will be removed to restore the river’s uninterrupted flow.
DCP (traffic) Archit Chandak welcomed the initiative, stating, “This is an ideal situation where all the inter-departmental agencies worked together, and the development work is being carried out without causing problems to motorists.”
According to media reports, the strengthening work for the bridge was sanctioned in 2022. Initially, the spans serving as waterways were strengthened. However, to reinforce the spans supporting traffic, vehicle movement had to be stopped.
Currently, work is in progress, and once the span under repair is completed, the road will be reopened before the final phase begins.
