A notorious pickpocketer, identified as Wahid, was caught red-handed by Kotwali police during the Mahakumbh Prayag Yog event at Reshimbagh on Saturday. Wahid, known for multiple thefts at Nagpur Railway Station, was apprehended while attempting to target devotees attending the religious gathering.
Given the massive turnout at the event, police personnel were on high alert. The Mahakumbh Prayag Yog, being held at Reshimbagh Ground on February 15 and 16, features several spiritual ceremonies, including the arrival of sacred ‘Sangam Jal’ from the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. The event commenced with a Rath Yatra at 7:30 am on February 15, carrying the holy water urn (Jalkumbh) and Padukas of revered saints.
The Maha Aarti at 1 pm was led by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, with State Cultural Minister Ashish Shelar also in attendance. Later, at 6:30 pm, singer Kailash Kher captivated the audience with a devotional music performance. The event is set to conclude on February 16, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis performing the Maha Aarti at 9:30 am, followed by a virtual Satsang at 5 pm and the final Maha Aarti at 6:30 pm.
Kotwali police have taken Wahid into custody and are probing his involvement in previous pickpocketing incidents at Nagpur Railway Station. Authorities have urged attendees to stay vigilant against such criminal activities during the grand event.
