The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) plans to conduct Class X board exams twice a year starting in 2026. Additionally, the board will introduce the CBSE Global Curriculum for 260 foreign-affiliated schools from the 2026-27 academic session.
Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently held a meeting with CBSE officials and heads of NCERT, KVS, and NVS to discuss draft schemes, which will be open for public consultation next Monday.
As per reports, CBSE will allow students to take exams twice a year, with the option to retain their best score.
This reform aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes flexibility and a student-centric approach.
New CBSE Board Examination System
Currently, CBSE conducts Class 10 and 12 board exams in February-March. Under the new reform, students will have the option to appear for the examination twice a year.
CBSE considered multiple options for the new exam system, including a semester-based approach with exams in January-February and March-April or a second exam in June for supplementary or improvement purposes.
Aligned with NEP 2020
This major reform aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, aiming to reduce exam pressure and enhance student performance.
