Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCC) Instructed NMC to take action against single-use plastic and restaurants using coal and wood. Maharashtra Pollution Control Board Chairman Siddhesh Kadam held a meeting on environment and pollution in Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
The MPCB chairman discussed four major issues which included STP plant, solid waste, air quality and single-use plastic. Under the rules, there is a provision for action against citizens using single-use plastic, but since the fine is high, action is rarely taken against citizens and customers. The MPCB chairman has recommended imposing a fine on citizens so that single-use plastic can be completely banned. However, he also said that the amount of the fine should be decided by the Municipal Corporation itself.
The MPCB chairman has also instructed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation to take action by imposing a fine on bakeries and restaurants using coal-based tandoors. Siddhesh Kadam said that commercial establishments will have to adopt LPG or any other source, so that pollution can be prevented. MPCB Chairman expressed concern about the air quality index of the city and said that in future a policy will be made specifically regarding this issue.
