Marathi film Sthal, which follows the story of a young woman from Vidarbha navigating a rural wedding while pursuing her career aspirations, is set to release in theatres on March 7.
The film’s makers, including veteran actor Sachin Pilgaonkar, director-writer Jayant Digambar Somalkar, and the cast, held a press conference at Patrakar Club of Nagpur, Civil Lines, on Thursday, where they interacted with the media. Sthal is presented by Sachin Pilgaonkar and marks Somalkar’s directorial debut in Marathi cinema. The film is produced by Jayant Digambar Somalkar, Shefali Bhushan, Karan Grover, and Riga Malhotra.
‘Sthal’ delves into the tradition of arranged marriages through the journey of a young woman from Vidarbha who dreams of completing her education while facing the realities of her impending marriage. The film also highlights the customs and traditions that shape rural life.
The film features Nandini Chikte in the lead role, alongside Taranath Khiratkar, Sangeeta Sonekar, Suyog Dhavas, Sandeep Somalkar, Sandeep Parkhi, Swati Ulmale, Gauri Badaki, and Mansi Pawar.
‘Sthal’ has been showcased at 29 film festivals worldwide and has won over 16 awards. It had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it also received the prestigious NETPAC Award for Best Asia Pacific Film.
