The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a Rs. 957.01 crore sewage network expansion projectunder the Amrut 2.0 scheme to enhance the city’s sanitation infrastructure. The project includes the development of new sewerage collection systems and sewage treatment plants (STPs) across multiple zones. However, extensive road excavation has resulted in the dismantling of several cement roads, causing significant public inconvenience.
Project Details & Key Contracts
The major contracts awarded under the scheme include:Package 1 (Rs. 92.78 crore) – Construction of an STP by Vishvaraj Environment P.L.
Package 2 (Rs. 146.81 crore) – South Zone SZ-1 sewerage system by Laxmi Civil Engineering Services.
Package 3 (Rs. 220 crore) – Sewerage work for SZ-2, SZ-3, and GM by Kalthia Engineering.
Package 4 (Rs. 99.61 crore) – Sewerage collection for multiple zones by P. Das Infrastructure.
Package 5 (Rs. 130.12 crore) – Sewerage collection for multiple zones by Laxmi Civil Engineering.
One of the worst-affected areas is Chinchbhuvan, where residents have criticized inadequate road restoration efforts. Former ward member Avinash Thakre condemned the negligence, highlighting that newly laid cement roads were dug up but not properly restored, causing severe disruptions to daily life.
In contrast, Dighori has faced minimal issues due to former ward member Pintu Zalke’s proactive measures, which ensured planned excavation and the availability of alternative routes.
While the project is crucial for sanitation improvement, authorities must enforce strict road restoration guidelines, strengthen interdepartmental coordination, conduct quality inspections, and keep the public informed about ongoing disruptions to minimize inconvenience.
