As the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 nears its conclusion, Prayagraj is witnessing a massive influx of devotees arriving to take the final holy dip at the Triveni Sangam. February 26 marks the last major snan, coinciding with Mahashivratri, and authorities are on high alert to ensure smooth operations and security.
Security & Crowd Management Strengthened
With an unprecedented turnout, law enforcement agencies have ramped up security measures to manage the massive gathering. DIG Vaibhav Krishna confirmed that additional security personnel will be deployed across sensitive locations to prevent overcrowding and maintain order.
“We are fully alert. The final snan on February 26 is yet to take place, and for this, security personnel will be stationed at all sensitive areas,” Krishna stated.
To further facilitate movement, traffic diversions have been implemented strategically. Special guidelines have also been issued to ensure students taking exams in areas near the Kumbh Mela can reach their destinations without difficulty.
Devotee Count Surpasses 60 Crore
In a significant development, the Uttar Pradesh government announced that the total devotee count at the Maha Kumbh Mela has crossed the 60 crore mark—far exceeding the initial estimate of 45 crore.
Officials anticipate that by the final snan on February 26, the total count could surpass 65 crore, making this one of the largest religious gatherings in history. The Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13, has already witnessed millions taking the sacred dip.
Traffic Congestion Ahead of Final Snan
Prayagraj has been experiencing heavy traffic congestion as pilgrims continue to arrive for the final rituals. The Chungi to Jhusi road has been particularly affected due to the surge of devotees heading towards the Sangam.
Three major snans—Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, and Basant Panchami—have already been completed, with the Mahashivratri snan being the last and most significant.
Train Cancellations & Special Arrangements
To accommodate the rising influx of devotees, authorities have canceled seven trains passing through Nashik Road railway station on February 25 and 26. Among the affected trains is the Howrah-Mumbai Mail (12321).
The decision was taken to prioritize special trains operating for Kumbh Mela pilgrims, according to the Central Railway’s Bhusawal division.
As Maha Kumbh 2025 approaches its grand finale, authorities remain focused on crowd control, safety, and transportation to ensure a seamless experience for the millions participating in this sacred event.
