A police constable was attacked near Khokha Café in Civil Lines late on Sunday night after he advised a young woman to leave the area. The incident involved a notorious criminal and his associate, leading to a case being registered against three individuals, Swapnil Vishnu Kamble, Sagar Mannusingh Thakur, and an unidentified woman.
Khokha Café, near the CBI office in Civil Lines, attracts young crowds late at night and is allegedly linked to illegal activities. Around 11:30 pm, beat marshal Pankaj Nandeshwar and home guard Ravi spotted a woman eating Maggi there. When Pankaj advised her to go home, she defiantly replied that it was her usual time for eating Maggi.
As the argument escalated, Swapnil and Sagar arrived, accusing Pankaj of being a “fake policeman” and trying to extort money. When Pankaj tried to reason with them, they, along with the woman, attacked him.
Pankaj alerted his colleagues, but the accused fled before the police arrived. Based on his complaint, Sadar police registered a case for assaulting a government official and obstructing duty. Swapnil and Sagar were later taken into custody.
The woman involved is reportedly linked to a notorious criminal from Ambazari, previously booked under MCOCA. Swapnil is also known to be his aide.
As Civil Lines is a high-profile area, the incident has raised concerns about law and order. Following the attack, Sadar police have intensified security in the vicinity to prevent further incidents.
