Nagpur celebrated Mahashivratri with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” as thousands gathered at temples on February 26. Devotees offered prayers, fasted, and performed rituals to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings. Temples were decorated and illuminated for the occasion, marking the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Nagpur’s Shiva temples saw a huge rush of devotees on Mahashivratri. Kalyaneshwar Temple in Mahal, Jagnath Budhwari Temple, and Prachin Kalyaneshwar Temple in Telangkhedi were packed with worshippers. Many arrived as early as 3 a.m., standing in long queues to offer prayers to the revered “jagrut” Shivlinga.
Devotees offered water, milk, honey, and bael leaves on the Shivlinga, symbolizing devotion. Many observed fasts, while some performed ‘Rudra Abhishek’ with sacred chants.
Private Shiva temples also stayed open all night, allowing continuous prayers. Devotees sang bhajans, attended special ‘aartis’, and worshipped Lord Shiva with devotion.
Devotees offered holy water and carried tridents, lighting lamps and incense. Many believe Mahashivratri prayers cleanse sins and bring spiritual growth.
