Pune: Dattatray Ramdas Gade, the man accused of raping a 26-year-old woman inside a Shivshahi bus at Swargate bus station, was detained in Shirur Tehsil on Friday, Pune Police confirmed.
Gade, a 37-year-old history-sheeter, was taken into custody around midnight after an extensive manhunt. The Pune Police had earlier announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for information leading to his arrest.
Manhunt and Arrest
The alleged rape took place in the early hours of Tuesday, inside an ST bus stationed at Swargate depot. Gade, who has a criminal record with at least six cases of theft, robbery, and chain-snatching registered against him in Pune and Ahilyanagar districts, had been out on bail since 2019.
To capture the accused, police deployed 13 teams across the state, using drones and sniffer dogs to comb through the sugarcane fields of Shirur Tehsil, where he was suspected to be hiding.
After tracking his movements for three days, authorities finally caught Gade when he entered a house to drink water. The alert homeowner immediately informed the police, leading to his swift arrest.
