The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has begun constructing helipads near the Samruddhi Expressway to enhance emergency response and transport services. A helipad near Igatpuri is already complete, and MSRDC plans to build 15 more, including in the Vidarbha region. These helipads will improve highway accessibility and support air ambulance services when required.
Helipads are also planned in Shirdi, Aurangabad, and a designated location in Vidarbha. Each helipad will span 52 by 52 meters, covering approximately 2,700 square meters, and will be situated at a safe distance from the expressway. Currently, 625 km of the 701 km-long highway from Nagpur to Igatpuri is operational.
Nagpur-based aviation companies, including Ujjwal Aero Sports, Fly Elite Aviation, and CAC, had earlier proposed constructing a helipad near the Samruddhi Expressway. Highlighting its benefits, Ujjwal Aero Sports director Ujjwal Bambal said, “Having a helipad near Samruddhi will help transport patients quickly in emergencies. It will also promote tourism and provide better facilities for VVIP movement.”
