A tragic accident occurred at the Chikla MOIL Manganese Mine in Tumsar taluka of Bhandara district, where a roof collapse at the third underground level led to the deaths of two workers and left one injured. The incident took place on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, between 9:00 and 9:30 AM, at a depth of approximately 100 meters.
The accident happened while workers from the first shift were engaged in manganese extraction. Suddenly, a slab collapsed, trapping three workers under the debris. Two of them died on the spot, while another sustained severe injuries. The injured worker was immediately rushed to Lax Hospital in Bhandara for treatment.
The deceased workers have been identified as Vijay Nandalal (50), a resident of Kharpadi, Tirodi, and Arun Jeevanlal Chormare (41), a resident of Sita Sangvi. The injured worker has been identified as Shankar Sahadev Vishwakarma (56), also from Sita Sangvi. All three were permanent employees at the mine.
The bodies of the deceased have been recovered and sent to the Sub-District Hospital in Tumsar for post-mortem. Authorities have informed the families of the deceased and the injured worker.
According to the Bhandara District Disaster Management Cell, rescue operations are still underway as there are concerns that more workers may be trapped under the debris.
