Six years after Maha Metro Nagpur started its maiden commercial operations, it has come a long way. From a modest beginning, when train operations were limited, Nagpur Metro has come a long way. It was on 7th March 2019 that Nagpur Metro had started commercial operations with just five stations – Khapri, New Airport, Airport South, Airport and Sitabuldi Interchange. Today six years down the line, Maha Metro operates on 40.02 km and covers 38 stations.
For records sake, six years since commercial operations had started Maha Metro has since transported 8,83,65,705 commuters. Maha Metro today has a footprint across the four directions – from Automotive Square to Khapri Metro Station on the North-South segment and from Prajapati Nagar to Lokmanya Nagar Metro Station on the East-West segment. The entire project on these two lines was dedicated on 11th December 2022.
Today Nagpur Metro has achieved a steady ridership of over a lakh on weekdays. Days after the entire project was dedicated to the nation in December 2022, Nagpur Metro logged its all-time highest ridership of 2,20,479 on 1st January 2023. From a mdoest start then, Maha Metro today provides a number of services to its commuters from WhatsApp ticketing to Celebration on Wheels.
Maha Card with 10 % discount for regular commuters and 30 % for students has proved to be a hit, especially among the latter. Till now, maha Metro Nagpur has sold over a lakh Maha Card, thus underlining its importance among the students. Daily Pass, Discount on Gazetted Holidays and Weekends are some other major services provided by Maha Metro, Nagpur.
