Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar presented the state budget for 2025-26 in the Legislative Assembly, with Minister of State for Finance Adv. Ashish Jaiswal tabling it in the Legislative Council. The budget outlines several significant projects aimed at improving infrastructure and boosting development in Nagpur district.
Key Budget Allocations for Nagpur:
• Urban Haat Centre for Weavers: To support handloom weavers and enhance their facilities, an Urban Haat Centre will be established in Nagpur. This initiative aims to promote local artisans and their craft.
• Nagpur Metro Expansion: As part of efforts to improve eco-friendly and efficient transportation, metro routes covering a total of 143.57 km have been developed in Mumbai, Nagpur, and Pune. Currently, Nagpur Metro’s first phase — spanning 40 km — is complete. The second phase, covering 43.80 km and costing ₹6,708 crore, is progressing swiftly. Approximately 10 lakh passengers benefit from these metro services daily.
• Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport Modernization: The Nagpur airport is undergoing extensive modernization through a private partnership. The upgrade aims to improve passenger amenities and enhance cargo handling capacity, contributing to economic growth across the Vidarbha region.
• Wainganga-Nalganga River Linking Project: The ambitious Wainganga-Nalganga River Linking Project has been granted in-principle approval. With an estimated budget of ₹88,574 crore, the project will provide irrigation benefits to six districts — Nagpur, Wardha, Amravati, Yavatmal, Akola, and Buldhana — covering an area of 3.71 lakh hectares. Surveys and investigations for the project are currently underway.
• New Court Establishments: To enhance the judicial infrastructure in Maharashtra, 18 new courts will be established across the state. Among these, Katol in Nagpur district is set to get a new court, ensuring improved access to legal services for residents.
These developments are expected to significantly improve Nagpur’s infrastructure, connectivity, and overall economic growth in the coming years.
