Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) has announced an ambitious ₹1,507.79 crore budget for 2025-26, marking a significant rise from previous years. The budget focuses on urban infrastructure, healthcare, public transport, and sports development to accelerate Nagpur’s modernization.
Comparison with Previous Budgets
NIT’s budget has grown substantially, from ₹820 crore in 2023-24 to the current ₹1,507.79 crore, an 83% increase. The 2024-25 expenditure stood at ₹665.06 crore, nearly half of the new budget, reflecting an aggressive expansion in development spending.
Budget Meeting and Approvals
The budget was presented by NIT Chairman and NMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Meena and approved by the board of trustees on Tuesday. Key attendees included trustee Sandeep Itkelwar, Deputy Director of Town Planning Vijay Shende, and Chief Accounts Officer Vilin Khadse.
With major investments in roads, healthcare, sports, and transport, this budget aims to drive Nagpur’s transformation into a modern urban hub.
Key Allocations and Spending
Infrastructure: ₹205 crore for developing undeveloped layouts and ₹60 crore for cement and asphalt roads.
Healthcare: ₹300 crore for a 300-bed hospital in Wathoda, addressing rising healthcare demands.
Sports and Recreation: ₹150 crore for sports grounds and a dedicated sports park.
Public Spaces: ₹250 crore for parks, playgrounds, and beautification projects.
Public Transport: ₹700 crore allocated for metro rail and transport connectivity.
Commercial Development: Major funding for Gokulpeth Market, Ambazari Complex, and commercial hubs.
Financial Overview
NIT expects total revenue of ₹1,507.79 crore, with capital receipts contributing ₹975.17 crore, revenue receipts ₹209.91 crore, and advances ₹70.65 crore. The total expenditure is ₹1,405.13 crore, including ₹1,164.98 crore for capital projects and ₹148 crore for revenue expenses.
