A city doctor has lodged a police complaint after receiving threats from a man who allegedly demanded ₹11 crore and warned of bombing his hospital using a vehicle loaded with gas cylinders.
Dhantoli Police have registered a case against Neeraj Radheshyam Gandhi, a resident of Vijayanand Society on Wardha Road, based on a complaint filed by Dr. Mahesh Chandulal Fulwani (55), owner of Shrikrishna Hospital in Dhantoli.
Land Deal Turns Contentious
According to police reports, Dr. Fulwani had been searching for land to construct a hospital. His friend, Narendra Gandhi, introduced him to a plot in Somalwada. On November 10, 2017, Dr. Fulwani finalized a deal with M/s Kanchanganga Realtors Pvt Ltd directors Sudhanshu Degwekar and Raju Dawda to purchase the land for ₹13.50 crore, paying an initial token amount of ₹5 crore. However, the deal stalled due to a legal dispute filed by Ashish Rathi, Director of Monarch Infrastructure.
Threats and Extortion Attempt
In November 2017, Neeraj Gandhi visited Dr. Fulwani’s hospital, claiming he had already secured a deal for the same plot. Over time, he allegedly began demanding ₹5 crore from the doctor and threatened to implicate him in a false case.
On August 26, 2024, Gandhi escalated the threats by sending a WhatsApp message to Dr. Fulwani, stating that the matter could be settled for ₹11 crore. When the doctor did not respond, Gandhi allegedly warned that he would crash a gas-cylinder-laden vehicle into the hospital if the demand was not met.
Police Action
Following the complaint, Dhantoli Police registered a case against Gandhi under Sections 308(3) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
