Nagpur: Authorities have imposed Section 144 in Nagpur’s Mahal area after a brief episode of violence on Monday night, confirmed Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal. The disturbance reportedly began between 8:00 and 8:30 PM after an incident involving the burning of a photograph, prompting protests in the locality.
Dr. Singal assured that the police acted swiftly in response to the situation. “A group of individuals approached my office, and we informed them that an FIR had been lodged based on the names they provided. The police are taking all necessary legal steps against the accused,” he stated.
The unrest led to vehicles being set on fire and instances of stone pelting. Following the disturbances, the police initiated a combing operation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence.
To prevent further escalation, public gatherings have been restricted under Section 144. Residents are advised to stay indoors unless necessary and refrain from spreading or believing in rumors. “The situation outside the affected area remains peaceful,” assured Dr. Singal.
Law enforcement agencies continue to monitor the area closely to maintain law and order and prevent any further incidents.
