As Nagpur recovers from a night of unprecedented violence, stories of alleged police brutality have left many in shock. Families claim that security forces stormed homes, assaulted residents, and damaged property under the guise of controlling the riots.
At Anand Smruti Niwas, Ashwini Satish Chahande broke down as she recalled how SRPF personnel barged into her house late at night. “They beat my husband mercilessly without reason,” she said. Her two-year-old daughter cried helplessly, while her seven-year-old son locked himself in the bathroom in fear.
Similar accounts emerged from businessman Azhar Qazi, whose cooler workshop was set on fire allegedly by police officers. “They destroyed everything—my livelihood, my home, and even my CCTV cameras. Why? What were they hiding?” he questioned.
The Mohammad family, known for their peaceful nature, also faced police raids. Five brothers were detained, leaving their wives and children terrified. Their home bore bloodstains, broken doors, and shattered windows, signs of the violence they endured.
As allegations mount, activists are demanding an independent investigation into the actions of the security forces. “While rioters must be punished, innocent civilians should not suffer,” said a local leader.
The police have yet to respond to these claims, but for many in Nagpur, fear of those meant to protect them now looms larger than the riots themselves.
