IndiGo Airlines will discontinue its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-Nagpur and Nagpur-Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar flights starting April, leaving passengers with only road and rail travel options. Meanwhile, Star Air is also expected to halt its Nagpur-Belgaum flight service from April 15.
Although IndiGo had announced its schedule for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar from March 30 to October 25, Nagpur flights were not included. This development raises concerns for air connectivity in Nagpur and impacts air travelers.
IndiGo had launched Nagpur-Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-Goa and Goa-Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-Nagpur flights on July 2, 2024, allowing passengers to reach Belgaum in just 1.5 hours. However, the Nagpur flights will be discontinued from April. Currently operating three days a week, the last flight will take off on March 29. After that, only Goa-Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-Goa flights will continue. When contacted, IndiGo officials did not respond regarding the decision.
Despite receiving a good response, Star Air’s Nagpur-Belgaum flight service is likely to be discontinued from April 15, as bookings for this route have been closed. The service has been operational for three years but is now affected by the end of government subsidies under the UDAN scheme, which supports new flight services for a limited period. With the subsidy expiring on April 15, the airline has decided to halt bookings for the route.
A large number of passengers travel between Nagpur and Belgaum. With the flight service set to be discontinued, many entrepreneurs will have to rely on Hubli or Goa airports for their journeys. There is growing demand for public representatives to take the initiative to restart this crucial air service.
