Following incidents of arson and vandalism in central Nagpur, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) swiftly deployed its sanitation workers to clear the debris and restore normalcy.
Several areas, including Hansapuri, Chitnis Park, Agrasen Chowk, Shirke Galli, Bhaldarpura, Central Avenue, Mominpura, and Shivaji Putla, witnessed large-scale damage. Numerous vehicles were torched, and public property was vandalized. Broken glass, burnt tires, and scattered debris blocked roads, causing major obstructions to movement.
Despite the tense situation, the NMC’s Solid Waste Management Department took immediate action. Under the guidance of Chief Sanitation Officer Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, and following discussions with Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, a team of 50 sanitation workers was deployed overnight. These workers bravely stepped in to clear the roads, ensuring a swift return to normalcy.
Firefighters Targeted During Rescue Efforts
Amid the chaos, firefighter Kapil Parwe from the Ganjipeeth Fire Station narrowly escaped serious injury. Responding to an emergency call about a burning four-wheeler near Chitnis Park, Parwe and his team rushed to the scene. However, as they attempted to put out the fire, they faced an unexpected attack.
A mob hurled stones at them, and Parwe was struck on his right leg, sustaining serious injuries. Thanks to police intervention, the firefighters were able to continue their efforts. Parwe received primary treatment at Mayo Hospital.
Despite the dangers, NMC and emergency personnel demonstrated unwavering commitment, ensuring public safety and a rapid response to the crisis.
