A stricter crackdown by Nagpur Traffic Police has led to a significant surge in challans issued, with 4,52,074 cases recorded between January and March 2025—marking an increase of 1.78 lakh compared to 2,73,837 cases in the same period last year. This heightened enforcement has contributed to a 22.22% reduction in accident cases and an 18% decline in fatalities, signaling a major improvement in road safety.
Among the most common violations, helmet-related offences witnessed the sharpest rise, doubling from 1,55,888 cases in 2024 to 3,21,304 in 2025—an increase of 1,65,416 cases. Similarly, wrong-side driving cases surged from 1,929 to 3,208 (+1,279 cases), while triple-seat violations rose from 5,770 to 9,756 (+3,986 cases).
Other notable trends include:
• Fancy number plate violations increased from 5,055 to 6,811 cases (+1,756 cases).
• Black film-related offences saw a slight rise from 2,028 to 2,128 cases.
• Failure to stop before the stop line increased from 4,415 to 4,624 cases.
• Drunk driving (DD) cases, however, dropped from 495 to 447 (-48 cases).
Proactive Measures Behind Accident Reduction
The decline in accidents is attributed to rigorous traffic policing led by DCP Archit Chandak under CP Ravinder Singal’s guidance. Key initiatives include:
1. Mission Jeevan Raksha – Radium barricades placed on high-speed stretches to prevent nighttime overspeeding.
2. Strict Night Nakabandi – 20 checkpoints operational from 9 PM to 2 AM for two months, using DD machines and MV Act devices.
3. Footpath Freedom Initiative – Over 4,500 cases filed in a month to clear encroachments, making footpaths safer for pedestrians.
4. Speed-Calming Measures – Implemented at accident-prone locations like Umiya Cutting (Pardi), Wardha Road, Koradi Road, and Hingna Road. Measures include rumbler strips, hazard markers, blinkers, temporary signals, and improved lighting.
To further enhance road safety, speed limit boards, accident-prone area signages, and awareness boards have been strategically installed across the city.
With these strict enforcement actions and safety initiatives, Nagpur Traffic Police have successfully reduced violations and enhanced overall road safety in the first quarter of 2025.
