Nagpur: The Maharashtra government has partnered with Microsoft to establish Artificial Intelligence (AI) Centers of Excellence across the state, aiming to enhance governance through AI-driven solutions. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar in Mumbai on April 1.
The agreement was signed by Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik and Venkat Krishnan from Microsoft, with key officials and Microsoft representatives in attendance.
Three AI Centers for Enhanced Governance
Three AI Centers of Excellence will be set up:
• Mumbai – Geospatial Analytics Centre: Focuses on geographic data analysis, aiding urban planning, disaster management, and infrastructure development through GIS and satellite imagery.
• Pune – AI for Forensics: Enhances crime investigation by integrating AI into forensic analysis and law enforcement.
• Nagpur – MARVEL Centre: Specializes in law enforcement, governance efficiency, and AI training for government employees, providing Microsoft certification through the MS Learn platform.
AI-Powered Governance Solutions
The Maharashtra government will leverage Microsoft Copilot for:
• Automated document management – AI-driven summarization and analysis.
• Faster grievance redressal – AI-assisted complaint resolution.
• Improved public services – AI integration in healthcare, land records, and transport management.
• Digital traffic fine processing – Direct linkage with Aadhaar for seamless transactions.
This initiative positions Maharashtra as a leader in AI-driven governance, fostering efficiency, transparency, and IT sector growth, reinforcing the vision of Digital India, Self-Reliant Maharashtra.
