A 33-year-old man from Nagpur, Maharashtra, was arrested for sexually abusing several women after his wife discovered disturbing evidence on his WhatsApp account.
She reportedly hacked into his account and found numerous chats, photos, and videos of women in compromising situations. The accused, Abdul Sharique Quereshi, is now in police custody, as per a local media report.
Quereshi allegedly lured women into physical relationships under the false promise of marriage, secretly recording photos and videos of them in compromising positions. He then used these recordings to blackmail the women later, according to the media report.
Quereshi’s wife initially visited the Pachpaoli police station in Nagpur to file a complaint of harassment, citing his constant demands for sexual activities.
The couple married in 2021 and have a three-year-old daughter. The police registered a case of cruelty against him, but he could not be arrested immediately due to Supreme Court guidelines.
Quereshi runs a paan kiosk at Teka Naka in the district.
WhatsApp account hacked
Determined to bring her husband to justice, Quereshi’s wife hacked into his WhatsApp account to gather evidence against him. Through his account, she discovered his multiple affairs with women of varying ages. She uncovered chats, images, and videos, revealing that he was blackmailing several women.
One victim, a 19-year-old woman, had met Quereshi, who was posing as ‘Sahil Sharma,’ at a social event last year. He convinced her he was a bachelor and lured her into hotels in Pachpaoli and Kamptee, exploiting her with false promises of marriage. He also persuaded her to sell a gold ring, gifted by her mother, for ₹30,000, which he took, threatening to share her nude photos online.
Quereshi’s wife reached out to all the victims, but the 19-year-old was the only one willing to accompany her to the police station and file a formal complaint.”On the basis of the complaint, an offence of rape was registered against Quereshi and he was arrested. The court has given us one-day custody remand, which will be subsequently extended,” the report quoted senior inspector Baburao Raut of Pachpaoli police station as saying.
