Nagpur: A pan stall owner, identified as Robert Francis, attempted suicide by consuming poison outside an MLA’s residence in Pratap Nagar police station limits on Wednesday. The incident took place after the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) took action against his stall, allegedly leaving him in distress.
According to reports, Robert had been running a pan stall in the area, but a recent NMC crackdown led to its removal. Following the action, he reportedly fell into depression. Unable to cope with the situation, he consumed poison outside the MLA’s house in protest.
He was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition remains critical, and further updates are awaited.
Authorities are investigating the matter, while the incident has sparked discussions on the impact of encroachment drives on small business owners.
