The decision to reduce in power tariff was rolled back by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission within a couple of days. The decision has been stayed for a month as the cut in power tariff is likely to affect the revenue of MSEDCL. The consumers feel that they were made April Fool by MERC.
The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) has proposed a demand of Rs 8,18,907 crore in revenue from 2025-26 to 2029-30. MERC, however, approved Rs 6,64,236 crores, which is Rs 1,54,671 crore less than the demand and announced tariff ct.
The power tariff is reviewed every five years. The new reduced tariff for the next five years was announced on March 29, MSEDCL, however, claimed that the reduction in power tariff would adversely affect it and other power consumers. Following an application made by MSEDCL to reconsider the decision, MERC has stayed the decision to reduce the tariff for one month.
