Nagpur: A petition has been filed in the High Court highlighting the increasing problems caused by the ongoing cement road projects in the city. The petitioner has submitted photographic evidence provided by citizens, showcasing poorly executed construction work and related grievances.
The petition also draws attention to protests staged by Green Nagpur, an environmental group that has been actively opposing the cement road projects and demanding a halt to their execution.
Key Concerns Raised in the Petition
The petitioners have urged the High Court to direct authorities to conduct inspections of ongoing projects and ensure that essential infrastructure—including rainwater drainage, sewage systems, electrical cabling, water recharge mechanisms, and water supply networks—is integrated into the construction process.
A major concern outlined in the petition is the rapid deterioration of newly constructed cement roads, with reports of cracks and damages emerging soon after completion. The use of fly ash in road construction has also been flagged as a health hazard, as airborne ash particles pose respiratory risks.
Additionally, citizens have complained about frequent waterlogging in residential areas due to the elevated height of these cement roads, which obstruct proper drainage and cause rainwater to flood homes.
The case is being represented by Advocate Parvez Mirza for the petitioner, Advocate Girish Kunte for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA), and Advocate Deepak Thakre for the state government.
