To simplify property registration and boost ease of doing business, the Maharashtra government will roll out the ‘One State, One Registration’ initiative from May 1. The system will allow buyers and sellers to register properties online from anywhere in the state, eliminating the need to visit sub-registrar offices.
“This will be a faceless process. One can register a house in Nagpur while sitting in Pune or complete a transaction in Pune from Mumbai,” said Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. “A property buyer or seller can register with the help of an Aadhaar card and income tax documents.”
He added, “When buying or selling a house, people face hassles and obstacles from brokers. To ensure transparency, CM Devendra Fadnavis launched a 100-day programme for dynamic governance. Under this, the Inspector General of Stamps and Registration introduced this initiative so people can register properties from home.”
The system was recently launched on a pilot basis in Mumbai and will now be implemented across Maharashtra.
A revenue official said the initiative will not only save time and reduce congestion at 519 sub-registrar offices but also help the government mobilise more revenue through stamp duty and registration fees—key income sources after GST and VAT.
This reform aims to bring transparency, reduce middlemen, and make the entire process more efficient.
