Nagpur: Crime Branch Unit 05 arrested three bookies while illegally betting on the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals. The raid took place within the limits of Hingna Police Station, Nagpur city, following a tip-off about betting activities during the live telecast of the match.
Based on the information received, police raided a residence near Hanuman Mandir, Gumgaon, where the third accused, Kunal Sordate, had reportedly set up a betting operation on the second floor of his house. During the raid, three individuals were caught red-handed while placing bets on the ongoing IPL match.
The arrested accused have been identified as Prajwal Shravanji Upase (25), a resident of Gumgaon, Hingna; Sagar Pundlik Rajurkar (33), a resident of MHADA Colony, Butibori; and Kunal Ashok Sordate (approx. 30), residing near Hanuman Mandir, Gumgaon. All three are from the Hingna region in Nagpur rural.
Police seized various electronic items used for gambling, including Oppo Air Pads, an Oppo mobile phone, a router, three power banks, a desktop computer (Eicher company), a mouse, and other accessories. The total value of the seized material is estimated at ₹81,500.
A case has been registered at Hingna Police Station under Sections 4 and 5 of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act, 1887. The complaint was filed by Police Sub-Inspector Rahul Rote of Crime Branch Unit 05. The accused and the seized items have been handed over to Hingna Police for further investigation.
The action was carried out under the supervision of the Police Inspector, Crime Branch Unit 05, Nagpur City.
