In a major step toward promoting professional cricket in Central India, the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) has announced the launch of the Vidarbha Pro T20 League, a franchise-based tournament modelled on the Indian Premier League (IPL). The inaugural edition is scheduled to be held immediately after IPL 2025.
The tournament will feature six men’s teams, owned and operated by leading business houses. These teams will compete in a single round-robin format, followed by semi-finals and a grand finale. Each team will comprise 16 players and six support staff members, with squads selected by the VCA.
To ensure a professionally managed event, the VCA has partnered with Arivaa Sports Private Limited, the organizers of the successful Bengal Pro T20 League. Arivaa Sports has been awarded exclusive management rights for the Vidarbha league.
Each franchise will be required to pay Rs 3 crore annually to the VCA, with a three-year lock-in period. The winnersof the league will receive Rs 35 lakh, while the runners-up will take home Rs 25 lakh.
Abhishek Mujumdar, co-founder of Arivaa Sports, said, “Designed on the lines of the IPL, the league aims to offer a world-class platform for both emerging and established cricketing talent in Vidarbha, while also ensuring vibrant fan engagement.”
In a significant move to promote women’s cricket, VCA’s Cricket Development Committee Chairman Prashant Vaidyaannounced that three of the six franchises will also field women’s teams, marking a progressive step towards inclusivity and balanced representation in regional cricket.
